Located near Coos Bay, this Lighthouse is actually the third lighthouse structure to be located at Cape Arago. The first was lit in 1866, the second in 1909 and the present lighthouse was lit in 1934. Cape Arago lighthouse is controlled by the Coast Guard and is inaccessible to the public. Chief Island and parts of the nearby mainland are sacred to the local Indians because of the occupation of that area by their ancestors.
